10th Annual Los Angeles Printers Fair

I'm very happy to announce that I will be participating in this years Los Angeles Printers Fair at the International Printing Museum in Carson, California. The fair celebrates a decade of bringing the best of letterpress, book arts, and the paper arts to the LA area. With the backdrop of the world’s largest collection of working antique presses, the LA Printers Fair annually brings together 80 artistic vendors and 1,700 visitors to experience the creative worlds of handmade books and beautiful printing. This year the fair will be held for two days, October 13th 10-4pm thru October 14th 10-4pm.

Exhibitors include many of the greatest letterpress and printmaking artists in the Southwest and beyond, offering custom posters, printings, hand-printed cards, memorabilia, hand-made paper, and antiquarian books for sale. Throughout the Museum’s galleries visitors can print their own keepsakes on antique letterpresses, have their name cast in printer’s type, make paper by hand, or even screen print their own shirt! All proceeds from the fair go to The International Printing Museum, a non-profit institution dedicated to the heritage, preservation, and advancement of the printing arts.

FEATURED ARTIST at this year’s Printers Fair will be poet, printer & fine artist Chris Fritton. Known as “The Itinerant Printer”, Chris Fritton sojourned on a two-year, coast-to-coast adventure to redefine the idea of itinerant or “tramp” printers in modern times.

With only paper and ink, he hit the road, traveling 50,000 miles by car, plane, and train across the rich North American landscape, visiting 120 letterpress shops. Working exclusively from the proprietors’ collections of wood type, metal type, border, ornaments and more, Chris produced a total of 15,000 prints during his journey. From a studio cabin nestled amongst the live oaks covered with Spanish moss to a printing lodge situated in the wide expanse of western Texas; this unique tour captured the culture and spirit of modern artistic letterpress printers who have been working hard to keep letterpress alive through these rapidly changing times.

Chris will be showcasing his unique prints as “The Itinerant Printer” at this year’s LA Printers Fair, a two-day celebration of letterpress and the book arts on October 13th & 14th in Carson, CA. Guests will be able to meet the artist, hear his colorful stories of the printing artists he met, and even purchase one of his prints or cards. Chris will also be signing copies of his new book, “The Itinerant Printer”.
